Printed Matter has been the centre of the artists' book world in New York since 1976.

Open to independent artists' book publishers based anywhere in the world; international applicants are explicitly encouraged. Past winners of this grant cannot reapply, but past recipients of Printed Matter's other awards — the Volume Grant, the Shannon Michael Cane Award, the Jason Polan Award — may. The grant is not aimed at imprints working mainly in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, artwork catalogues, monographs or deluxe hand-crafted book objects.
