K&B Art Studio sits in a village in Hainan by the wetland, fifteen minutes from the coast by scooter, within reach of rural village life, the surfing and camping communities, and a migrant creative population working in pottery, weaving, silverwork, painting and woodwork. The studio is a shared workspace with a pottery room, two multi-function rooms and two kilns, one large and one small, plus basic woodworking equipment; artists get a private room and share a yard with two geese. Both founders speak English and volunteers help where needed. Residents are encouraged, not required, to leave something behind — a poem, a sketch, a ceramic piece — or to run a workshop with the village children and the local makers.

Artists, photographers, curators, writers and makers travelling in Asia, for stays of two to eight weeks. There are no residency fees and accommodation is free; residents bring their own tools or work with local materials, and cover their own food. Applications are a short cover letter with preferred dates and creative expectations plus a CV or portfolio, read by the two founders, who reply on whether and how the studio can host the work.
