Studio Luce runs out of Villa Rosa, a colonial-inspired villa with a private pool and gardens in El Paredón on Guatemala's Pacific coast, steps from the black sand beach. Each bedroom is en-suite with its own desk, and there is a dedicated art and writing studio for the residents. The residency is hands-off by design: self-directed, self-funded, with artists setting their own schedules. Its alumni include a PEN America/Robert W. Bingham Prize winner, literary press directors and award-winning filmmakers, and the founders — the author Ben Davies Crisp, Dr Katie Gaddini and the artist Carlin Francis — built it to connect international practitioners with Guatemala's cultural scene. Part of what residents pay funds the salary of the librarian at La Choza Chula's library in El Paredón, keeping its education programme running.

Open to writers, academics and artists of all disciplines, internationally. Four twelve-night sessions run in 2027, each with its own deadline; a 25% deposit secures the place on acceptance and the balance is due two months before the start. Deposits are non-refundable and dates cannot be transferred. Applicants for whom the listed rates are out of reach are invited to say so — alternative payment scales are arranged where possible.
