For nearly 60 years the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown has given emerging writers and visual artists seven uninterrupted months to build a life around their practice. The writing fellowship's application needs no statements or recommendations; the visual arts fellowship opens separately on 20 October 2026.

Ten writing fellowships (five in poetry, five in fiction) for a seven-month residency, 1 October 2027 – 30 April 2028: a furnished apartment, a $1,250 monthly stipend and a $1,000 exit stipend, a public reading, and meetings with visiting writers who give manuscript reviews. The Rona Jaffe Foundation Fellowship adds a $2,500 prize for an emerging woman writer, and the Fellowship Access Fund gives $500–$2,500 to selected candidates with particular financial needs.

For emerging fiction writers and poets; an MFA is not required. Applicants who have had high-profile honours, are tenure-track professors or have received awards specifically for mid-career artists are not eligible. Non-U.S. citizens and residents of other countries are welcome (a Social Security Number or ITIN is needed on acceptance; FAWC provides an acceptance letter but no visa counsel). Fellows must stay in residence, with absences of no more than 14 consecutive days or 30 days in total. Writing samples are judged anonymously in poetry or fiction.
