Gaildorf Town Painter Residency 2027 — A Year's Studio and Flat in the Old Castle plus €500 a Month

The Stadtmaler (town painter) stipend of Gaildorf, a small town in the Kocher valley of Baden-Württemberg, has hosted artists since 1997 — among them Heinrich Knopf, Wonkun Jun, Karin Brosa, Naomi Akimoto and, in 2026, Jan Hendrik Pelz. Thanks to a private donation it is offered again for 2027.

The town of Gaildorf offers one artist a year to live and work in the centrally located Old Castle, from January to December 2027: a fully furnished flat of about 50 m² (with kitchenette and washing machine) and a studio of about 45 m², both rent-free including utilities, plus a cash stipend of €500 a month. The town usually buys a work from the stipend holder within its means. The artist is invited to engage with Gaildorf, the Limpurger Land and its history, ideally in dialogue with local people through freely chosen projects.
