It sits in what the residency calls Shanghai's largest artists' and musicians' neighbourhood, with restaurants nearby and a lake ten minutes away for swimming and canoeing in summer. Artists get a private bedroom of around 15 m², share kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, lounges and a co-working area, and can work in the basement workspace, the living room, the balcony or the garden. Workshop facilities cover painting basics and textiles, and the residency runs art community meetings and events.
