A grant of HKD 200,000 to cover all costs, including travel, living, insurance and research. The fellow is attached to M+ for three to six months, with onsite and online access to the M+ Collections, library and archives, several internal presentations and discussions with curators. The 2026/27 theme is the relationship between the traditional and the contemporary in Chinese art since the 1980s (ink art, art-historical terminology, art and craft, artist agency). The fellowship ends with a public lecture in Hong Kong and an essay for M+ Magazine, in Chinese (at least 7,500 characters) or English (at least 5,000 words). The jury is Peggy Wang, Ying Kwok and Wu Mo.

Individuals or research groups of all nationalities with no age limit, who hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline or an undergraduate degree plus at least three years of relevant professional or academic research experience, with spoken and written proficiency in Chinese or English. The proposal must relate to visual arts and rest on new research or on an expansion of earlier unpublished research; entirely new projects are preferred. The fellowship also depends on the fellow obtaining a Hong Kong visa, and the fellow must give M+ first right to publish the research.
