Residency that invites six artists a year to work in the high desert where the Sonoran and Mojave deserts meet. Selection by JTHAR board members and jurors on portfolio merit and proposal; priority to proposals that anticipate transformations and discoveries inspired by place.

A seven-week residency in one of two homes with studio on 5 acres next to Joshua Tree National Park, a 900 sq ft art studio and a reference Book Lab, plus a $1,500 scholarship toward supplies, transport or meals. Sessions: 4 May – 22 June 2027, 24 August – 12 October 2027, 11 January – 29 February 2028.

All US and International artists are eligible. Artists must be 18 years or older. All career stages and media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and non-fiction writing, interdisciplinary, social practice and architecture. Musical submissions are not accepted this cycle.
