Watershed Studios occupies a converted fish factory and hay shed on the river Corrib outside Galway, with undisturbed views over the water and surrounding fields — isolated enough to work, ten minutes from the city when that stops being useful. Artists get 24-hour studio access, with a private studio available on request, and live in cottages a minute's walk away, three people to a cottage, each with their own room and a shared living space and kitchenette. Three to six artists are in residence at a time, Irish and international, which is the point: the place is built around meeting other artists rather than around a programme. The monthly fee covers the room, the studio and all bills; there is an artist talk and an open house, and the option of joining an exhibition.

Open to visual artists, writers and musicians of any nationality. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis by email or through the residency's form, with a CV, a short letter of intent and six images of the work or a link to a website. Stays run one to three months and the residency hosts three to six artists at a time.
