2027 Beam Camp Project Open Call — $5,000 Award and $15,000 Budget for a Large-Scale Build
Beam Center
Beam Camp, a summer camp for building and collaboration run by Beam Center, commissions one large public artwork each year as the centrepiece of its four-week session. Past projects include Theater of Giants (2025), Welcome Beacon (2023) and As Above, So Below (2022). Zoom info sessions for proposers run on 22 October and 14 November.

The selected proposer receives a $5,000 award, and the project gets a fabrication budget of about $15,000, with Beam's Project Team translating the design into a real construction at Beam Camp in Strafford, New Hampshire, in summer 2027. The proposer is invited to camp for part of the session, with reasonable travel expenses reimbursed. Facilities include wood and metal shops, welding, textile and dye stations, a ceramic studio, molding and casting, a technology lab and audio equipment.

Open to creative individuals and teams from all over the world and of any age — artists, engineers, architects, builders, filmmakers, musicians, designers, technologists and others — proposing an ambitious, large-scale project that 100 campers (ages 9–17) and 20+ staff can build in about 50 hours, mostly on site and from scratch. Beam asks that AI be used sparingly in proposals.
