SAAM's Audrey Flack Short-Term Fellowship makes onsite research possible for scholars who cannot leave work or family for a long residency. It sits alongside the museum's year-long fellowships in its programme for the study of American art, founded in 1970.

A one-month onsite research fellowship at SAAM, taken between 1 June 2027 and 31 May 2028, with a travel allowance of $100–$1,000 for relocation and access to the museum's research staff, collections, archives and library.

Scholars from any discipline researching American art, craft and visual culture. Applicants must identify a member of SAAM's research staff as primary fellowship advisor and are encouraged to contact potential advisors in advance. Applicants whose native language is not English are expected to write and converse fluently in English; all application materials must be in English. For predoctoral, postdoctoral or senior scholars whose personal circumstances — financial constraints, employment conditions, care-giving responsibilities or other limitations — preclude longer residencies.
