Ten new members are elected for five years. Members get access to a broad, growing network, a platform for interdisciplinary work at the intersection of science, art and society, a research budget for joint scientific and artistic projects and a personal budget for individual support. Selection interviews in Berlin (expected 11–12 February 2027) — hotel costs are covered and travel within Europe is reimbursed.

Outstanding scientists and artists with a completed doctorate or an artistic qualification work (e.g. Meisterklasse); the final examination must lie at least three and at most seven years before 11 November 2026 (parental, care and sick leave are counted). At least one further outstanding achievement after the degree, or visibility with an independent profile, is expected. Neither German citizenship nor living in Germany is required, but members need solid German (C1 or above) and must be able to take an active part in events held mostly in Germany.
