A City of Olympia public art call for two of eight gateway artworks planned along the city's civic boulevards.
publicSeo.openCall.benefits
Two separate commissions, each with an artwork budget of $55,000 covering design, engineering, lighting fixtures, landscape, fabrication, transport, insurance, the artist's fee, taxes and travel. The city prepares the site (foundations, pedestals, electrical) and installs the work, and maintains it. Art Crossing #4 is at Harrison and Division, between two neighbourhood associations; Art Crossing #5 is a roundabout at Henderson and Eskridge near Watershed Park. The plan calls for a pair of markers at each location, visible from the boulevard, with a theme of 'Olympia Crossings', able to last at least twenty years in wet weather. Up to three finalists per site are interviewed. Part of the project is supported by a National Endowment for the Arts award.
