CCA Photography Research Fellowship 2027: Imperial Exposure — CAD 5,000 a Month in Montréal, with the Paul Mellon Centre

The Canadian Centre for Architecture's 2027 photography fellowship, run with the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London, looks at how photography exposed and sustained imperial networks of trade, influence and harm. The selection committee includes Katie Addleman, Monica Bravo, Sria Chatterjee, Deepali Dewan, Phyllis Lambert, Rafico Ruiz and Steffen Siegel.

A one- to two-month residency at the CCA with a monthly stipend of CAD 5,000 plus travel support, access to the collection and staff of the CCA and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, a workshop and public research roundtable co-organised by the two institutions, a later public talk at the PMC in London, and the chance to propose an article to British Art Studies. Fellows present work in progress and join summer seminars with the CCA's other fellows.

For researchers whose proposals centre photography as the central question of inquiry and engage the CCA's photography collection (about 65,000 photographs, more than half from before 1900) through the 2027 theme of imperial exposure. Proposals treating visual media more generally should go to the CCA Research Fellowship instead. The fellow must be in residence in Montréal for one to two months between 7 June and 30 July 2027, starting in the second or third week of June. One fellowship is available.
