The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation runs overseas residencies and other opportunities for artists from India; its Skowhegan residency is run in partnership with the Maine summer art school founded by artists in 1946.

One artist based in India attends Skowhegan’s nine-week summer program (5 June – 7 August 2027), with tuition covering housing and all meals, a private studio, access to fabrication shops, library, performance space and fresco barn, weekly lectures, workshops, reading groups and seminars, and group and individual studio visits with faculty. Inlaks also pays the artist a return ticket up to $1,200 and a $1,000 materials stipend.

Indian passport-holding citizens resident in India at the time of application, aged 35 or younger in the year of application, who are accepted to Skowhegan’s summer program; applicants who already received an Inlaks grant for another overseas project are excluded. Indian applicants should contact Skowhegan before applying so its application fee can be waived.
