One place for the academic year 2027–28: a three-month research residency in autumn 2027 (mid September to mid December) at the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome, with a stipend of €1,900 a month, a guest flat at the institute, workplace and library facilities (no studio), and an economy travel allowance for the return journey. The residency is mainly a period of research and no finished work is expected. The institute's researchers work in classical studies, archaeology, art history and history, with a current focus on imperialism and colonialism. The fellow pays any taxes owed in the home country.

Dutch artists working in the Netherlands or abroad, and artists of another nationality who live and work in the Netherlands, in any discipline (painters, sculptors, architects, writers, filmmakers and others). Members of the Society of Arts can apply themselves; everyone else must be nominated by a nominator (anyone may nominate), and self-nominations are not considered. The project must contribute to cross-fertilisation between art and academic research, and a good command of English is required.
