Japan Foundation Grant for Dispatching Artists FY2027 — Travel Support for Japan-Based Performers Invited Abroad
The Japan Foundation
The Japan Foundation's travel grant for Japan-based performing artists and cultural specialists invited abroad — theatre companies, musicians, dancers and folk-art groups, as well as lecturers and workshop leaders. It covers part of the flights from Japan and freight for projects in the 2027–28 fiscal year, with selection made after consulting experts in the field.
publicSeo.openCall.benefits
Partial support of international travel expenses (round-trip flights departing from Japan) and carriage of baggage or freight for performances, demonstrations, lectures and workshops abroad between 1 April 2027 and 31 March 2028. In FY2026, 67 of 176 applications were funded; the largest grant was approximately JPY 4,000,000.
publicSeo.openCall.eligibility
Groups or individuals in the arts and cultural fields who are based in Japan and have received invitations to participate in cultural events overseas from foreign organizations, or Japan-based organisations that produce such projects. Projects must be performing arts (theatre, music, dance, folk arts) or lectures, workshops and demonstrations related to Japanese culture. Projects already supported by Japanese government or government-affiliated grants are not eligible, and an invitation from a Japanese diplomatic mission or the applicant's own branch abroad alone does not qualify.
