Luminarts' creative writing fellowship is judged anonymously by professional writers and awards unrestricted funds to early-career poets and prose writers from the Chicago region.

Unrestricted $10,000 Fellowships in poetry and prose; select finalists receive a $300 Honorable Mention Award. Winners read at the Luminarts Creative Writing Showcase at the Union League Club of Chicago on 20 May 2027. Fellows can apply for project grants, residencies and professional development for ten years.

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 on the day they submit, legally able to receive taxable income in the United States (a social security number), and live within 150 miles of the Chicago Loop — or have spent 4–6 consecutive formative years within 150 miles of the Chicago Loop and consider themselves a Chicago artist. Artificial intelligence may not be used in the work submitted; applicants certify this. The Fellowship can be won only once, but applicants may reapply every year. Writers choose one category: poetry or prose (fiction and non-fiction).
