Kaaysá sits at Boiçucanga Beach on the São Paulo coast, between the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and the ocean, and has hosted more than 800 artists and 40 curators since it was founded in 2017 by the Lebanese-Brazilian cultural mediator and former gallerist Lourdina Jean Rabieh. The residency keeps working relationships with the Caiçara fishing communities and nearby Indigenous Guarani villages and runs educational and environmental activities with local schools — ecology, collective life and collaboration are not decoration here but the programme's centre. Since 2024 an in-residence curator accompanies the creative process. The contribution covers accommodation, curatorial support, mediation and access to all shared facilities.

Open to visual artists, dancers, writers, musicians, curators, filmmakers, researchers, performers, architects, designers and scientists from anywhere. Three formats: Kaaysá Open, a continuous programme with a minimum stay of fifteen days and arrival at any time; the collective Kaaysá Residency, gathering up to ten artists for a shared immersion, usually a month; and group residencies for dance companies, theatre groups, collectives and seminars.
