St. Gallen's cultural promotion sends artists from the canton for three-month residencies in its studio flat in Rome and, in odd years, in Liechtenstein's flat in Berlin. A specialist jury looks for projects with a clear relation to the city or the urban context.

A three-month stay in the canton's studio flat in Rome, or in the Principality of Liechtenstein's studio flat in Berlin (open to St. Gallen artists every two years), with CHF 9,000 towards living costs. The 2027 call offers four stays: December 2027–February 2028 in Rome, April–June 2028 in Berlin, June–August 2028 in Rome and September–November 2028 in Rome; you can apply for one or several periods.

Cultural practitioners in all fields (applied art and design, visual art, film, history and memory, literature, music, dance, theatre) who have lived or worked in the canton of St. Gallen for at least twelve months, or previously had their residence there for at least twelve years. The project should be artistically or historically convincing, independent and feasible, with a link to Rome or Berlin or the urban context. Applying excludes a cantonal Werkbeitrag in the same year.
