Four poets are honoured: $1,000, $750, $500 and $250. All four poems are published in Poem-a-Day (500,000+ readers) and may be featured in Teach This Poem. Established in 2019 with support from Treehouse Investments to honour poems that help readers recognise the vulnerable state of our environment.

US citizens; residents of the United States for the ten years before the deadline; or DACA, TPS or permanent-resident status. One original, previously unpublished poem, anonymous; poems in Spanish must include an English translation; performance and spoken-word poets may submit an audio recording. Those who studied with the judge in full-time accredited courses in the last three years are not eligible.
