North by Northeast (NXNE) has run a music festival and conference across downtown Toronto every June since 1995, with 300+ artists over five nights. Its artist showcases follow a strict on-the-hour schedule of 40-minute sets, and the application is free — the organisers state there is no fee and never will be.

Booked artists play a 40-minute showcase set at NXNE, 16–20 June 2027, across Toronto venues, with showcases from 8 pm to as late as 2 am. Each act chooses its compensation: an artist fee of $150 per band or $100 for a solo act plus a discovery pass per member, or an Artist VIP package (a lanyard per band member with priority access all week, worth about $250 each). All performers get festival passes and access to artist mixers and networking; artists booked for June are also considered for the NXNE Stage at the Canadian National Exhibition in August.

Open to bands and solo musical acts across contemporary genres, applying through one online form. Every application is read by a person on the NXNE programming team; decisions go out January through March 2027 either way.
