Luminarts Cultural Foundation
The Luminarts Cultural Foundation invests in emerging artists from the Chicago region through unrestricted fellowships in visual arts, creative writing, classical music and jazz. Visual arts finalists are chosen by professional jurors and exhibited together before the fellows are selected.

Unrestricted $10,000 Fellowships; every finalist receives a $300 Honorable Mention Award and shows work in the Visual Arts Exhibition at Chicago Art Department (opening 12 March 2027). Fellows can apply for project grants (up to $5,000), residencies, workshops and mentorship for ten years; finalists eligible to reapply get written feedback from the judges.

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 on the day they submit, legally able to receive taxable income in the United States (a social security number), and live within 150 miles of the Chicago Loop — or have spent 4–6 consecutive formative years within 150 miles of the Chicago Loop and consider themselves a Chicago artist. Artificial intelligence may not be used in the work submitted; applicants certify this. The Fellowship can be won only once, but applicants may reapply every year. Open to drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture and video integrated into artworks; short films are not accepted.
