Jack Straw Writers Program 2027 — Twelve Fellows Trained in Audio, Readings and an Anthology, Seattle

The Jack Straw Writers Program, in its 31st year, introduces writers to recorded audio and live presentation; more than 350 writers from the Pacific Northwest and beyond have taken part. The first mandatory meeting is in January 2027.

An invited curator — Harold Taw in 2027 — selects 12 fellows, who receive training in vocal presentation, performance and microphone technique, record readings and an interview in Jack Straw's studios, appear in live readings around the community (with a final reading in November), on the web and radio, and in the printed Jack Straw Writers Anthology.

Established and emerging artists in any discipline or genre, as individuals or teams; artists may apply to only one Jack Straw residency program per year. Artists outside the Puget Sound region may apply, but travel and lodging are not included. Jack Straw staff, interns, board members and their immediate families may not apply, and 2026 participants cannot reapply to the same program for 2027. Fellows must be on site in Seattle for workshops, an interview session and readings, mostly January–June 2027; anthology work may not be previously published.
