First place $1,000, second $500, third $250, and all winners receive scholarships to the 2027 Tucson Festival of Books Masters Workshop held right after the Festival in March 2027. The top 50 entrants are invited to the Masters Workshop ($350 value) to learn from published authors, editors and literary professionals.

Writers aged 18 or older, emerging or experienced. Per entry: five poems of any length, or a short story or novel excerpt, or a nonfiction piece or book excerpt (prose up to 5,000 words), in English and unpublished at the time of entry (self-published allowed). Not accepted: stories for children, academic or how-to nonfiction. Anonymous manuscript; no limit on entries.
