Glasgow Short Film Festival runs an international competition for the Bill Douglas Award and a Scottish competition. The 2027 call takes short films of every kind up to 40 minutes, and works-in-progress are welcome.

Selected films screen at Glasgow Short Film Festival 2027 in competition for the Bill Douglas Award for International Short Film or the Scottish Short Film Award. GSFF is BAFTA- and BIFA-qualifying: British films screened there become eligible for BAFTA short film / short animation and BIFA best British short consideration, subject to their other criteria.

Open to short films completed after 30 September 2025, with a maximum duration of 40 minutes, that have not previously been submitted to GSFF; works-in-progress are welcome. Films with at least two of director, writer or producer resident in Scotland compete for the Scottish Short Film Award; all other films are eligible for the Bill Douglas Award for International Short Film.
