A two-phase art competition with an EU-wide open application round, run by the research centre DESY for four new campus buildings in Hamburg.

Four permanent outdoor artworks (paintings, objects or installations) in dialogue with four new buildings of the DESY research campus: lot 1 CAST €140,000, lot 2 DESYUM visitor centre €170,000, lot 3 ITGZ I €325,000, lot 4 ITGZ II €165,000, up to €800,000 gross in total, covering fee, materials, fabrication, third-party services, permits, delivery, installation and travel. The works are to be realised in 2027 (contract periods of 6 to 9 months). Up to 15 participants in the second phase each receive a processing fee of €2,000 gross; prize money of €40,000 net is split into three categories across the lots. The jury has six expert and five lay members; phases 1 and 2 are anonymous. The procedure follows the German competition rules RPW 2013.

Professional visual artists, designers and creators, alone or as an application team, with permanent residence or business seat in Germany or elsewhere in Europe at the time of the call. Professionalism is shown by a CV with list of works and exhibitions (without a degree from an art academy, a continuous professional practice must be shown). Each applicant must show one to three reference projects, preferably Kunst am Bau or art in urban space, that together include one such project, one completed between 2016 and 2026, and one with realisation costs of at least €50,000 gross. A team counts as one application, and only the persons named may take part. The competition language is German.
