An annual prize of USD 1,500 for ten poems by an African poet, judged by a panel convened by the African Poetry Book Fund. Shortlist announced in April, winner in May; shortlisted and winning poems are posted on the APBF website. Founded in 2012 by Bernardine Evaristo as the Brunel International African Poetry Prize.

Open to African writers — born in Africa, a national or resident of an African country, or with African parents — who have not yet had a full-length poetry book published (self-published books, chapbooks and pamphlets are exempt). A packet of exactly 10 poems, each no longer than 40 lines, in English (translations welcome; the translator shares the prize). Poems may have been published before. Anonymous document via Submittable only.
