Gladstone House
Gladstone House, built in 1889, is Toronto's oldest operating hotel and has been a hub for local art for over two decades. Its Art Studio residency, launched in 2021, has hosted more than 50 artists.

A self-directed 3-month residency in the Art Studio of Toronto's oldest operating hotel (a 480 sq ft room shared by 3 resident artists), with an approx. 11×6 ft workspace, two work tables, a task chair, a cabinet, shared raised tables and free Wi-Fi, accessible 7 days a week, 7am–11pm. Blocks: January 4 – March 31, April 1 – June 30, July 2 – September 30, October 1 – December 31, 2027. In exchange, artists work in the studio at least 2 full or 4 half days a week with the door open to hotel guests, and contribute an exhibition, workshop or other activation. Suitable media: drawing, acrylic/tempera/watercolour painting, collage, illustration, water-based block printing, small sculpture, textiles and fashion, wire and bead jewellery, digital work.

Professional artists at any career stage (Canada Council definition), at least 19 years old; local and regional artists (no accommodation or transport provided); artists without studio space outside their own homes; artists who have not been Gladstone House residents before. Media must suit an open shared studio: no dust-producing or noisy equipment as a primary practice, no oil paints, turpentine, varnish, torches or burners.
