Grants for community arts, humanities and science projects — performances, festivals, workshops, lectures, field trips — from the nation's largest grassroots cultural funding network: LCCs award $6.6 million a year to about 7,400 programmes. Grants vary by council; averages are modest ($500–750) and most are paid as reimbursement.

Applicants must reside or be located in Massachusetts: individuals (including sole proprietors), nonprofits, unincorporated groups, for-profits and public bodies. Projects in the arts, humanities or sciences must show a public benefit in the community. Each of the 329 local and regional councils sets its own priorities and may limit applicant types (see its Council Profile); applications go directly to the chosen LCC through Mass Cultural Council's online system.
